The argument for number one:
Gonzaga earned the preseason number one ranking the past two seasons and stayed the best team in the country, entering the NCAA Tournament as the tournament's top-seeded team. The Bulldogs put themselves into position for another number one when Drew Timme and Julian Strawther returned, and Malachi Smith transferred from Chattanooga to help fill the guard void.
